Get Well Soon, Bar!

Bar, my three year old male cat is right now in the hospital where he is going to have an operation to clear a blockage in his urethra.

I just hope he gets well soon. I have not seen my cats (Foo and Bar) in nearly seven months now.. and now this is unbearable for me.

If you have a overweight male cat around three years of age be careful about the signs of FLUTD… You can find tons of links about it from the web. Watching for the signs in advance can mean life or death for you beloved cat.

for more photos of foo and bar my cats see click here 🙂

Update : Bar had his operation and is now in great shape… though he has a shaved butt 🙂

The Place of Many Doors / DNA-Me

Today I received a mail from Sathya Saran, the editor of “DNA-Me” asking me for bio information as my story “The Place of Many Doors” is scheduled for publication very soon.

This story is special for me as I was requested by the editor to write something for a much different audience than my usual one. (“DNA-Me” is a women’s magazine.)

In many ways this is a sequel to a story of mine published in “Chick Flix eZine” titled “Einstein’s Twin“. Einstein’s Twin was told from a man’s viewpoint while Place of Many Doors is told from the female perspective.

The story is not sci-fi / spec-fic, rather is about uncertainties of life. I loved every bit of the process, in writing the story of Nandini, a young woman who is pregnant from a recently ended relationship and now must decide whether to keep the child or have an abortion.

Man with the Plan

Suddenly it looks to me as if I can make good on something I planned a long time ago… turning into a full time writer by 35. 🙂

Things are moving well on the Virgin Comics front… watch this space for more updates. Doing a rewrite on the second draft of Issue #1 for “India Authentic” which deals with the legend of Kaali. Enjoying it greatly…

My indie projects are also shaping up well… I covered “The Sentinels” the 3 issue superhero mini series in my last post.. Also moving well is the Noir Anthology “Walk With Me” with art by Miguel Santos.

The banner image you see at the top is made from the art from “Walk With Me“…

Right now I am timesharing between my mild mannered geek and absynthe driven comic book writer bit. As soon as my commitments to dimdim are over (hopefully within the next two years) I plan to turn to writing as a full time career. 🙂

I leave with a preview from “Walk With Me”

The Sentinels

I have been working with Ivan Barriga and Lisa Jennings on a 3 issue miniseries called “The Sentinels“, a superhero tale developed around the high concept

“What if superman died and his daughter had to take his place in the JLA”

This is my first try at superheroes and I am having a blast writing it. We have finished 10 pages and are now preparing the pitch packets to send out to publishers.

Watch this space for more details. 🙂

Here is a sneak peek from Issue #1 LEGACY

Both Ivan and Lisa have done a great job here…

Virgin Comics / INDIA AUTHENTIC

I signed up with Virgin Comics to write a 5 issue series called “INDIA AUTHENTIC” which retells/reimagines the iconic myths and legends of India for an international audience.

The series shall hit the stands sometime in June / July 2007.

I am pretty pumped up about this and have started work on the first few books in the series. Watch this space for more details. 🙂

Vault of Terror hits the stands

My piece “Dragonslayer” for “Vault of Terror” by SMASH! Comics/Open Book Press got a good review at “ComicReaders.com”. The reviewer calls it one of the “successes” of the anthology.

I did the story / letters while Kaushik Pal did the art. We had experimented with a CGI based art style which I must say added a lot to the mood / ambience of the story.

A quote from the review is given below ( You can read the full review here. )

Dragonslayer” by Saurav Mohapatra and Kaushik Pal provides a look into another damaged mind; the story of a young girl who has created in her mind a mythological villain to slay in order to escape the horrors of her own reality.

The book can be purchased via Amazon.com

220 Volts AC

I have started a new blog at Sulekha.com at the above URL for just writing about stuff as I am on a year long sabaticcal in India. I quit my job in the states and moved back to India for a year or so, to think about life and what i want to do next.

Please do visit “220 Volts AC” and be sure to leave your feedback there.

Due to network connectivity issues, I might not be updating this blog frequently … however i do try to post daily on http://220volts.sulekha.com

One of my posts titled “The Fifteen Marks Answer” was selected as a “Featured Post” on Sulekha.com

and in other news … one of my stories called “DEATH BY ANY OTHER DAME” , a norish take on the vampire story was accepted into the May 2006 issue of “THE HARROW”, an award winning horror and dark fantasy magazine ( http://www.theharrow.com ) and another story titled “NOCTURNES OF INFINITY” made it to the final list of 25 for “NORTH OF INFINITY III” anthology to be published by Mosaic Press.
