New Digital Art Pieces

Of late, I’ve been developing on a dystopian near-future Indian sci-fi short story collection. In keeping with that theme (and as part of the world/mood building excercise), I’ve been working on some digital art pieces that try to blend traditional Indian motifs with a cyberpunk sensibility.

Here are two I worked on this weekend. These are really fun to work on. Both of them use royalty free photos from Unsplash and Pexels and then I process them in GIMP to get them to a line drawing like state. For effect, I print them out on an old laser printer I have (which has a really screwed up toner pack and prints them weirdly). I then scan the line drawings back in and color them in GIMP and apply the post processing effects.

Worklog update

Well, it’s been a long time since my last post. Just been busy. Not too many gigs to speak of. Most in progress are stuck with artists. One interesting bit though, just now putting finishing touches on a short story commisioned for an anthology based ona  favorite character of mine. Will post more details as soon as I’m allowed to.

In other news, got my San Diego reservations done. Looking forward to it.

Some new Nine Panel Grid columns are also online at http://www.comicswaitingroom.com/ninepanelgrid.html

The once and future worklog

Ever since the “Liquification” of Virgin Comics things have been a bit light on the writing front. So I decided to take some time off to focus more on life especially my daughter, Adya.

I just sent in a script for a graphic novel commisioned by an indian publisher about the legend of Abhimanyu from the Mahabharata. So I end 2008 with a clean slate.

What’s in store for 2009?

Well there’s Mumbai Confidential , my creator owned crime-noir series set in the city of Mumbai (duh!). 😛 Also have started putting together a few pitches as the conn season opens with NYCC in first week Feb ’09. There is a full length OGN project called SYZYGY that was in discussion with Archaia Studio Press around last SDCC, but in light of the restructuring there decided to wait till things settle down before bugging Mark Smylie (owner of ASP and all around awesome guy!) with it. So first half of 2009 will see that in full swing too.

There pitches and feelers/schmoozes pending with some other companies, which hopefully will translate into gigs in 2009.

So all in looking forward to a fruitful 2009 and while I’m at it — a happy new year to you and yours.
